Frequently Asked Questions

Here you will find answers to the most common questions about reactive power compensation, power quality, detuned capacitor banks, and spare parts. This is a list of our clients’ most common questions so you can quickly find help with everyday situations and potential issues.

If you cannot find the answer to your question or if you need more detailed expert assistance, TKF’s experts will be happy to help.

All components, including those for devices from other manufacturers.

For example, capacitor units, reactors, contactors, fans, thermostats, and air filters.

The contactor heads have probably "welded" together, or the reactor is failing.

We recommend having the device serviced.

Either the controller’s connection or set values are wrong.

We recommend verifying the voltage and current measurements for the connections. We also recommend checking the controller’s set values.

There may be harmonic currents in the network, which cause the capacitor to draw more current than it normally would.

We recommend measuring the power quality on the site.

There are several different sources of harmonic currents, but they are most commonly caused by frequency converters.

Harmonic currents can be filtered using passive and active filters. These solutions are always custom-designed to meet the specific requirements, so please contact TKF's sales department.

There are approximately 80 network operators in Finland, each with their own policies on billing for reactive power. In practice, you can avoid reactive power fees by purchasing a detuned capacitor bank. Please contact TKF Sales at myynti@tkf.fi to dimension the installation correctly. The detuned capacitor bank selection guide, which you can download here, can also help you understand the issue.

The current transformer is connected the wrong way around. Connect the current transformer the other way round.
